The product

Our sensor has a sensitivity that rivals the PCR-test, but is fully portable, and provides a digital result to the user within a matter of minutes. Furthermore, any bacteria, virus, fungi, or molecule can be detected and quantified using our method.

Illustration of a clock that says "results within minutes". Then an illustration of a suitcase that reads "fully portable". Then an illustration of a computer screen that reads "digital result".

Our portable sensor, powered by graphene field effect transistors, delivers rapid and sensitive detection of various substances.

What makes these qualities possible is the fact that graphene field effect transistors (GFETs) are the base of our sensors. A GFET consists of a graphene channel positioned between two electrodes, accompanied by a gate contact aimed at controlling the electronic behavior of the channel. The graphene is intentionally exposed, allowing for the functionalization of the channel surface and the attachment of receptor molecules to it.

The GFET channel surface is modified through the binding of receptor molecules that are specific to the desired target. When a target molecule adheres to the receptor located on the surface of graphene, it initiates a redistribution of electronic charge. This alteration results in a shift in the electric field within the GFET channel region, leading to modifications in the electronic conductivity within the channel and, consequently, influencing the overall response of the device.

Sensors like these have been constructed previously, but at a high production cost. We have a patent filed for our novel manufacturing method, allowing us to lower costs significantly, opening up possibilities for implementation in new markets.

Sustainable Development Goals

#2 Zero Hunger

Food safety is one of the important aspects in the SDGs #2. Fast and sensitive biosensors can contribute to achieving food safety. By regularly using biosensors for quality control, food producers can ensure that their products meet necessary hygiene standards and are free from bacterial contamination. This enhances overall food safety and reduces the likelihood of products needing to be recalled due to quality issues

#3 Good health and well-being

Our innovative sensor plays a crucial role in promoting Good Health and Well-being. By being adaptable to detect various molecules, bacteria, fungi, and viruses, it becomes an adaptable tool suitable for different industries, including the food industry, medtech and agriculture.

#12 Responsible consumption and production

The UN quote underscores the importance of addressing food waste through dedicated policies, informed decision-making based on data, and investments in technology and infrastructure. A rapid biosensor can be seen as a technological solution aligning with this framework by providing enhanced monitoring and control over food production. This has the potential to reduce the overall amount of discarded food, contributing to addressing the issue of food waste in line with the stated recommendations.
